  • My heart is truly broken for all of you. Sending you my deepest sympathies & condolences. Although it was many years ago that I worked with Sue, Anne & Mike, and Doug & Joann, my fondness for Hildebrandts was always there. Reconnecting with everyone on FB was great and Sue would always have a story about your dad & the Islanders. When I would see her, she always had a big smile & hug for me. She was very kind & sweet. When my own husband got sick, she would call & text to see how he/we were doing. She'd send ice cream to us when we had the flu or surgery. Very caring. I will never forget her. You're free now Sue and are with your dad and your dog Lucky. ❤️🙏🏻❤️

  • Brokenhearted
  • I've been coming to Hildebrandts for 62 years. In the 1950s I came with my parents and siblings for the ice cream and Easter Bunnies, in the 1970s-80s Bob and I came every Saturday for lunch, and even after we moved to NJ in the 1990s I'd return for Christmas Kringles. But truth be known...it was never about the food( although it is wonderful)...it was about the family. Since Al and Joanne bought HILDES (as we call it in my family), we have returned for the smiles, hugs and very, VERY entertaining stories. Most of all we loved the stories that Al told about Susan during her teen years...like how she told her parents that she was working extra hours so that she could save up for something very important. Al was so proud that she was working overtime and saving every dime. Sue was maybe 16 or 17 and so we thought she was saving for a car, a trip to the islands with friends...but lo and behold...she was saving up for something far more unusual...a two-headed albino snake! When I re-shared that story with her late last year... she sighed and said..."I really did want that reptile...but eventually settled for a pair of nice snakeskin boots." We all miss Al but I always felt that he lived on though Susan as she inherited her dad's wit and story-telling ability. Over lunch one day she related a story about her mother Joanne's first big trip overseas after Al's passing...and the companion she traveled with. I could never do the story justice but let's just say that Susan's version of the story led me to laugh so hard that I snorted my malted through my nose. Over the last few years...Susan shared funny stories about Dakota and Hunter and so the story-telling had come full circle to the next generation. I feel so very fortunate that she chose to keep me up-to-date on all of you. I know that she loved you all so very much and I share your loss at this most difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with Bryan, Dakota, Hunter,Joanne, Joanne, Anne and all of your families as well as Susan...who was so very special.

  • loving message
  • We are so sorry to hear of Susan's passing. So many of our happy memories, when we lived in E. Williston, were at Hildebrandt's. Susan always made us feel very welcome. She always greeted us with a great big smile. Susan always suggested that we have some ice cream with some hot fudge after our meal. Susan helped to make Hildebrandt's the special welcoming family place that it is. We are so sorry for your loss and are sending our love and prayers to your entire family.

  • Susie!
  • That's how I always knew her - as Susie. We were friendly in High School and then reconnected later as adults. She was so happy for me when my son was born and always made a huge fuss over him when we came in to the shoppe. She was a wonderful, kind woman with a ready smile. I will miss her.

  • Memories of Susie
  • Like Sue Miller, I knew Susie both as a Wheatley student and as the mother of two wonderful children who were my students at Wheatley. She was a vibrant, honorable, kind and loving woman, who was a joy to know. She loved her children dearly and showed it every day. My deepest condolences to her family.

Susan and Ace Rubin and Robert Arken
  • We just heard about the loss of Susie. Our hearts are so sad for all her loved ones. We have loved your family from the first time we met in your restaurant. You always made us feel at home. Susie always had a wide smile whenever we came in. And she always asked about the family. We saw her grow up, get married to a wonderful man, become a loving mother to two great kids. We will keep her in our hearts and prayers. With much love, Susan, Ace and Robert

  • Susan was a beautiful person inside & out. She was so kind to my family especially after the sudden death of my husband. She let my daughter use the restaurant as the set for her graduate school film. Susan was so accommodating to my daughter and her crew. It won't be the same going to the restaurant and not being greeted by Susan. She always stopped by to talk. She will be missed by all. Rest in peace.

  • Remembering our dear friend Susan
  • I've been struggling to find the words to express our deep sorrow over the passing of Sue. I don't think it's often that people become friends via an ice cream sundae. But that is exactly what happened with us. Only through Sue 's warmth and tenderness was this possible. She always made us feel so special - as if we had been friends for many, many years. We were always greeted with a hug and a kiss and a smile that said - welcome !!! We will miss her more than words can say. May Sue be at peace in the arms of angels and may all who loved her, feel gratitude in being loved by her in return.

  • Sending love to your family
  • I am so sorry to hear this heartbreaking. Some of my favorite memories are from the time I spent with your family, and I admired how your mom was able to be deeply kind and wickedly funny at the same time -- always making jokes in a compassionate way. I also enjoyed the dynamic between Bryan and Susan. One example is when curious customers would ask if I was Bryan's daughter, he would tell them that my mom was his ex-wife and that she and his current wife got along well. Susan would play along and chime in, to the point where some people may still believe that story. But I think my favorite memories of Susan are from the day-to-day, when I would see her love for her family as she interacted with or told stories about her two amazing children, Dakota and Hunter. It was through those moments that everyone could see what a beautiful heart she had. Thank you Susan for all of the kindness and laughter that you brought to so many of our worlds--you will always be missed. Sending love to Bryan, Hunter, Dakota, Joanne, Joanne, and Anne. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.

  • Susie
  • I extend my deepest condolences to the Strano-Acosta families. Susie was one of my favorite students at Wheatley. Her smile lit up our classroom. From day one, there was a special quality about her that I sensed. We learned together and had a great time while doing so. I was very fond of Susie and she will always have a special place in my heart. I also always enjoyed meeting with her supportive and loving parents. May she rest in peace and may her children be comforted in their loving memories of a very special mom.
